Enabling Environments is one of the Early Years Education pillars. It is all about providing tools to create an atmosphere that will facilitate learning, empower children in exploring their own interests and building on their abilities. For this particular activity, the teachers had set up a “town” with roads, cars, trees and houses. While playing, the pre-schoolers decided they needed a car park and, later on, they needed to add snow, using pieces of cotton to represent it. The classroom environment provided an engaging, open-ended activity that allow children to use their own experiences and imagination while bonding with their peers and solving problems.
